The teenage tennis phenom Coco Gauff is still making an impression both on and off the court. Her latest remarks demonstrate how her father, Corey Gauff, had a positive influence on her social conscience and motivated her to stand out for those in need.

Corey Gauff’s upbringing was far from privileged. He weathered challenges, yet he carried within him a profound belief in lifting others up. As Coco recalls, “I was taught from a very young age about the privilege I have.” Corey’s childhood experiences fueled his determination to make a difference. He understood that one person’s kindness could ripple through generations. And so, he imparted this wisdom to his daughter.

“A lot of things written. One is ‘You can change the world with your racquet.’ Something my dad told me since I was a little girl,” she claimed. “It’s an inspiration for why I feel it’s important to speak up about certain issues.”

In the summer of 2020, Swifties discovered Taylor Swift’s childhood connection to Sea Isle City, a quaint spot on the Jersey Shore. Little did they know that this coastal haven would also resonate with the Gauff family. Corey’s influence extended beyond tennis; it reached the sandy shores of Sea Isle. The same place where Coco’s heart found solace, where memories were etched, and where she learned the art of uplifting others.

Corey’s lessons bore fruit. Coco’s commitment to uplifting others is unwavering. In her own words, “Maybe I can continue that cycle with some other kid.” Whether it’s through her powerful forehand or her heartfelt advocacy, she carries forward the legacy of compassion. Even if professional tennis hadn’t been her path, Coco would have been actively involved in making the world a better place. It’s the Gauff way—to uplift, inspire, and create change.
