Tyson Fury (33-0, 24 KOs) vs. Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) might happen sooner that we expect, as Top Rank chief Bob Arum insists that the much awaited undisputed heavyweight championship can take place as soon as this December.
I would like to see Fury fight Usyk: Bob Arum
Despite being one of the most anticipated super fights of this generation, Fury vs. Usyk never actually materialized due to the parties failing to reach a common ground throughout the last year.
In the meantime, Fury, the WBC champion, has ventured into a different path and will be facing Francis Ngannou in a 10-round exhibition bout this October, while Usyk defeated Daniel Dubois last month.
All in all, Bob Arum believes that despite the past hurdles in making Fury vs. Usyk possible, the fight can still be made and the veteran promoter sees it happening as early as this December.
“It won’t be hard to make. I think he [Usyk] wants that fight. I think that fight is going to happen, and hopefully, it will happen sooner rather than later,” said Arum during a recent interview with Sky Sports. “Probably be early next year, but it could happen as early as December.”
“I would like to see [Fury] fight Usyk. I think once he fights Usyk, and assuming he beats Usyk, then I think he’ll do a victory lap, maybe two more fights, and let the younger guys take over,” he added.
