Andy Ruiz feels that he can beat Tyson Fury in his home country.
Sulaimán, give me the opportunity: Andy Ruiz Jr
The former unified champion wants the fight against the WBC heavyweight champ at the Azteca Stadium, and has reached out to Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the WBC , to give Ruiz a shot at the Briton’s green and gold belt.
“I would love to fight Tyson Fury in Mexico at the Azteca Stadium,” said Ruiz in an interview with Jessie Vargas on his YouTube channel Make a Move. “Sulaimán, please give me the opportunity. I have a great feeling that I have a great chance that I’m going to beat Tyson Fury.”
“Yes (Fury) is big, he has a strange style, but I am short and I am fast. You better believe I can win that fight if you give me the chance,” he added.
The WBC had ordered an eliminatory fight between Andy Ruiz and Deontay Wilder, in which the winner would face “The Gypsy King”. However, Ruiz and Wilder could not reach an agreement, causing the fight to be called off.
All that being said, Ruiz is not happy with being asked for more eliminatory fights, as he assures that he has already fought two WBC eliminators.
“Sulaimán, give me the opportunity,” he went on, “I want to be world champion and I am going to do it. And I’m going to bring that WBC belt back to Mexico. I’ve already done two qualifiers to fight for the world title, why do I have to do a third? Why don’t you give me the opportunity? I fought with (Chris) Arreola in the eliminatory, I fought with (Luis) Ortiz in the eliminatory. Now they want me to fight (Deontay) Wilder in a knockout, but I’m ready. Whatever it takes to get closer to that goal that I want to achieve, I am willing to do it.”
