Shedeur Sanders is not a member of an NFL team with the first round of the draft in the books, and it is safe to say his Hall of Fame father did not see that coming.
Deion Sanders said for months leading up to the draft that both Shedeur and former Colorado star Travis Hunter would be top-five picks. That was true for Hunter, and the Jacksonville Jaguars mortgaged their future to move up to No. 2 overall for the Heisman Trophy winner. Shedeur, however, fell out of the first round altogether.
After the first 32 picks were in the books, Deion had an embarrassing Community Notes update slapped on his X post from last year.
In May, Deion boldly declared that Shedeur will “be a top 5 pick” in response to a troll. “Shedeur Sanders was not a top 5 draft pick,” reads the Community Note that has now been added to that post.
Community Notes, which is X’s fact-checking feature, can be quite harsh. The Dallas Cowboys were roasted with a much harsher Community Notes update earlier this year.
Two quarterbacks were taken in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, and Shedeur was not one of them. Cam Ward went to the Tennessee Titans at No. 1, which was a given. The New York Giants then acquired a second pick in the first round and took Jaxson Dart 25th overall while Sanders continued to tumble down the board.
At one point, Deion hinted that Shedeur could pull an Eli Manning and refuse to play for certain teams. Now, the Sanders family just wants Shedeur to hear his name called. That should happen at some point during the second round on Friday night.
