No sports fan ever in the history of world sports would ever think of an athlete being the greatest in their discipline in their 40s, but Tom Brady is built differently. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers icon, currently 44 years of age, is just getting better and better. Not only he is far from any thought of retirement and instead and showing improvement day by day, but also has clocked thirty passing touchdowns for the Buccaneer so far this season.

The former New England Patriots stalwart won his record seventh Super Bowl earlier this year in February, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated former champions Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 at Super Bowl LV on 7th February. However, we might not have witnessed Brady playing at his peak even in his 40s or clinch his seventh Ring, as the veteran quarterback recently revealed that he could have retired back in 2007!

A perfect 2007 for the Patriots and Tom Brady would have called it quits

Back in 2007, when Brady had fortified his presence with the New England Patriots, the franchise saw themselves up against the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, a match which is considered to be one of the biggest upsets in the history of professional sports, as the favourites Pats were defeated 17-14 by the Giants.

The 4th episode of the documentary “Man in the Arena,”, which is scheduled to air on ESPN+ next week, was previewed early by Zack Cox of NESN, who revealed that if Patriots won SBXLII and marked an impeccable 19-0 season, Brady would have contemplated retiring from the NFL. However, the loss made him rethink his career.

“Had we won that game — I don’t know, I’m not a big hypothetical guy — but maybe the desire is a little bit different, if you’re looking at a silver lining,” said Brady, as quite by Cox in his tweet, “maybe the desire to reach that point, maybe I would have been fulfilled — not to stop playing at that time, but I don’t know. Maybe I’d play another seven or eight years, and maybe I’m fulfilled. Maybe not.”

Highlights:

  • Tom Brady says he would have thought about retiring if the Patriots win Super Bowl XLII, but the upset to the Giants made him rethink his career
  • The 44-year-old went on to win the Super Bowl a record seven times
