<p id="mntl-sc-block_1-0-8" class="comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html"><em>&#8220;I thank everyone that&#8217;s here, that&#8217;s been on my side so many years, decades. Oh, my gosh, literally decades. But it all started with my parents. And they deserve everything. So I&#8217;m really grateful for them.&#8221;</em></p>
<p id="mntl-sc-block_1-0-11" class="comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html">She thinks her tears <em>&#8220;are happy tears,&#8221;</em> said she while she continues to credit her elder sister Venus for making her potential historic career.</p>

She also reveals going to her friend Tiger Woods for guidance as she thought about retirement.</p>
<p>On Tuesday, one bombshell of an announcement was released by<a href="https://www.thesportsroom.org/serena-williams-us-open-a-miss-this-year/"> Serena Williams</a>. The player stated that she is &#8216;evolving away from tennis&#8217; after almost a 27 years long profession, with regard to special things which hold more importance in her life.</p>
<p>The 23-times Grand Slam champion indicated about hanging up her tennis racket, most probably after the upcoming US Open. The 40-year-old William attributed golf star, Tiger Woods, in her column on <em><a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/serena-williams-retirement-in-her-own-words" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vogue</a> </em>for helping her to take the decision about calling it a career.</p>
<h2><strong>This whole evolution thing has not been easy for me: Serena Williams</strong></h2>
<p>In 2021, William injured her leg at Wimbledon. Recently when she felt &#8220;the itch to get back on the court&#8221; for the first time, she went to 46-year-old Woods who arose with fame in the profession of golf while Williams ascended to the world of tennis.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;I said, &#8216;I don&#8217;t know what to do: I think I&#8217;m over it, but maybe I&#8217;m not over [tennis],&#8221; </em>wrote Williams, &#8220;<em>He&#8217;s Tiger, and he was adamant that I be a beast the same way he is! He said, &#8216;Serena, what if you just gave it two weeks? You don&#8217;t have to commit to anything. You just go out on the court every day for two weeks and give it your all and see what happens.&#8217; I said, &#8216;All right, I think I can do that.'&#8221;</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;I was good. I was really good,&#8221;</em> Williams penned of her comeback, <em>&#8220;I went back and forth about whether to play Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open after that. As I&#8217;ve said, this whole evolution thing has not been easy for me.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>William acknowledged that she<em> &#8220;wasn&#8217;t ready to win Wimbledon this year,&#8221;</em> in her Vogue piece. The mom to 4-year-old Olympia lost a tough comeback match at Wimbledon to Harmony Tan in June. <em>&#8220;And I don&#8217;t know if I will be ready to win New York,&#8221;</em> she continued, <em>&#8220;But I&#8217;m going to try.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Ahead of preparing for her final Grand Slam tournament of the season, Williams marked a win over Spain&#8217;s Nuria Párrizas Díaz at the Canadian Open.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;I know there&#8217;s a fan fantasy that I might have tied Margaret that day in London, then maybe beat her record in New York, and then at the trophy ceremony say, &#8216;See ya!&#8217; &#8221; </em>Williams wrote of her impending retirement,<em> &#8220;&#8230; But I&#8217;m not looking for some ceremonial, final on-court moment. I&#8217;m terrible at goodbyes, the world&#8217;s worst. But please know that I am more grateful for you than I can ever express in words. You have carried me to so many wins and so many trophies. I&#8217;m going to miss that version of me, that girl who played tennis. And I&#8217;m going to miss you.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Woods, likewise, is currently feeling vagueness about his future career. The golf legend, who has clocked the second highest no of major championship wins (after Jack Nicklaus at 18), hinted that he might have played his last British Open last month after missing the cut and making an emotional exit from Scotland&#8217;s Old Course at St. Andrews.</p>
<p>Williams, the mother of 4-year-old Olympia, also acknowledged that she has been <em>&#8220;reluctant to admit&#8221;</em> to both herself as well her near and dear ones she has to bid adieu to the sport and the Serena Ventures founder added that she is looking to give her focus elsewhere, which include she and her husband Alexis Ohanian planning a second child.</p>
<p>Williams will play at the U.S. Open in New York City, taking place between 29th August and 11th September.</p>

<p>After considering the opinion of her doctors, the legend decided to give it a rest this year. She will be taking some time off to allow her body to heal. <p>The former World No.1 said the injury had not completely healed after she was forced to retire hurt in the first round at Wimbledon.</p>
<p>Her injury flared up when she participated at the Wimbledon. The tennis legend was forced to withdraw after playing just the first round due to pain.</p>
<p>Serena had also given the Cincinnati Masters a miss to get into form for the Flushing Meadows but did not go according to the plan.</p>
<p>Her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou shared how the doctors explicitly mentioned that Serena would be taking a big risk if she continues to play in this condition. Her team had a reason with her and request her to take some time off because she is too competitive and does not like &#8216;giving up&#8217;.</p>
<p>Serena has won the US Open six times, and it is a big loss for the tennis fans not to see her play at the court this year.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">SERENA WILLIAMS DID NOT MANAGE TO EQUAL THE RECORD AT WIMBLEDON</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Williams has already won 23 singles Grand Slam events. She has won the Australian Open 7 times in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2015 and 2017. She has won the French Open 3 times in 2002, 2013 and 2015. She has won the US Open 6 times in 1999, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014. She has won Wimbledon 7 times as well, in 2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2016.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, her attempt to break the record turned out to be unsuccessful as she limped out of the arena, and <a href="https://www.thesportsroom.org/category/tennis/">Wimbledon</a>, in pain. During her first round match against unseeded Belarusian opponent Aliaksandra Sasnovich, played at the slippery centre court, she was observed to be in pain. Leading 3-2, Williams had to seek for medical attention and treatment. Later, she managed to return to the court, but she could not manage to play for much longer.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She shrieked and sank to her knees in pain and started to sobb before being helped out of the arena.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">THE SLIPPERY WIMBLEDON COURTS ARE RECEIVING CRITICISM</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The slippery courts of Wimbledon received much criticism, with the organizers of the event receiving backlash from tennis fans voicing their displeasure over social media, fearing more injuries to come. Roger Federer also joined in the collective displeasure.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On Instagram, Williams wrote that she was heartbroken over the knee injury. She thanked the fans who supported her and the team who maintained the centre court. This was the first time, in 20 Wimbledon singles appearances, that she checked out of the competition in the very first round.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Serena Williams shocked the fans as she confirmed that she will not be participating in the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.thesportsroom.org/serena-age-inconsequential-still-best/" data-type="post" data-id="13454">Serena Williams</a> had previously expressed her concern regarding her participation in the high profile event due to the travel restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic. She confirmed the news to the reporters at <a href="https://www.wimbledon.com/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.wimbledon.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wimbledon</a> on Sunday.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It has been noted that the organisers have prohitbited the family members of thr athletes to attend the Olympic Games as per the safety protocols and the overseas spectators are also been left out. However, the domestic crowds will be allowed but with limits.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It seems that the <span style="font-size: inherit">r</span>estrictions on international arrivals would have kept Williams away<span style="font-size: inherit"> from her three-year-old daughter Olympia.</span></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She spoke about the reasons for withdrawal from the event. She said: &#8220;<em>I&#8217;m actually not on the Olympic list, not that I&#8217;m aware of. If so, then I shouldn&#8217;t be on it</em>.&#8221;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Serena Williams said there are a lot of reasons behind her decision but she did not revealed them just yet.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She added: &#8220;<em>There&#8217;s a lot of reasons that I made my Olympic decision. I don&#8217;t really want to &#8212; I don&#8217;t feel like going into them today. Maybe another day. Sorry. I have not thought about it. In the past [the Olympics] has been a wonderful place for me. I really haven&#8217;t thought about it, so I&#8217;m going to keep not thinking about it.&#8221;</em></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Williams is set to begin the Wimbledon and will aim to capture the title for the eight time which is a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam title. She will clash with Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus on Tuesday.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Previously,  Naomi Osaka had announced withdrawal from Wimbledon due to her mental health reasons, while 2019 champion Simona Halep pulled out because of injury. Williams had seeded sixth for this year&#8217;s Championships.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Williams had won gold in the London Games when she had defeated Maria Sharapova in the final, and won in doubles in Sydney in 2000, Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012 with sister Venus Williams.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Pulling out of the Olympic Games is a manor decision and we will keep updating once more details are revealed. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Nearly four years later and amidst her longest grand slam drought, time seems to be running out for the soon-to-be 40, Serena Williams. Adding to the concerns is her poor run of form as well as the newfound weakness of choking in the latter stages of the Grand slams.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>The situation around her, coupled with her not-so-great record in French Open has made her coach <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Mouratoglou" class="rank-math-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Patrick Mouratoglou</a> believe that it would be virtually impossible for the American legend to win her <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serena_Williams" class="rank-math-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">24th grand slam at French open 2021.</a></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Serena will go into the <a class="rank-math-link" href="https://www.firstpost.com/sports/french-open-2021-casper-ruud-reveals-tough-practises-with-rafael-nadal-await-ahead-of-roland-garros-9643971.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">French Open </a>with just a single win on clay this season &#8211; against 17-year-old Italian Lisa Pigato, ranked 512th in the world.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Three of Williams&#8217; majors have come in Paris but her strong serve and big ground strokes are blunted by the slowness of the claycourts and the French Open has consequently been her least rewarding slam.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>&#8220;If I answer you today I am not going to rate her chances really high because she&#8217;s lost the second round in the last tournament, and first-round the one before,</em></strong>&#8221; the Frenchman said.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><em><strong>&#8220;So it&#8217;s difficult to say that she&#8217;s gonna win <a href="https://www.firstpost.com/sports/french-open-2021-casper-ruud-reveals-tough-practises-with-rafael-nadal-await-ahead-of-roland-garros-9643971.html" class="rank-math-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Roland Garros. </a></strong></em>But we still have 10 days to work so we got to make the best out of those 10 days and I know how much work she can do in a short period of time and how much she can improve,&#8221; he concluded.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>However, exceeding expectations is a norm for Serena Willaims and while her form may not be great,the class and the hunger is still there.Let&#8217;s see when that hunger manifests itself into a record 24th Grand slam win.</strong></p>
