Josh McCown already has already etched out his post-NFL plans. The backup quarterback of Houston Texans revealed the career path he has set his eyes on when his playing days will be over- its football coaching.

The NFL has seen a number of backup quarterbacks in history who turned out to be successful coaches following their retirement. Two of the most remarkable examples are Eagles head coach Doug Pederson and Colts head coach Frank Reich. Now, Josh McCown desires to walk the same path.

Josh McCown has his eyes set on being a coach after retirement

With 17 NFL years in his bag, its no doubt that Josh McCown has garnered a ton of experience in the league. Now at the twilight of his career, questions arise about the 41-year-old’s future plans and the player has no hesitation in answering but interestingly, McCown didn’t have the same mindset a decade before.

“I believe so,” McCown, in an interview on Friday, affirmed when asked about a future coaching career in the league, “If you’d asked me that 10 years ago, I would’ve said no way, that’s not what I want to do at this level.”

Even before coming to NFL, the former Sam Houston State Bearkats quarterback had dreams of being a high school coach in the state.

“My dream coming out of college had I not been able to play in the NFL was to coach high school football here in Texas. I really thought that was going to be my path,” McCain went on, “but the longer I’ve been in this game and been around these guys, I see real value in being able to be a part of an organization and compete at the highest level. Yeah, absolutely.”

After 102 NFL appearances, 17731 career passing yards and 98 touchdowns, McCown wants to turn his hand to coaching once he hangs his boots up from playing.

“When that day comes, I could definitely see myself doing that and hopefully just be able to get in and serve a team and help them. Help them in the pursuit of getting better daily and obviously chasing a championship. Yeah, one of these days whenever that happens, whenever I finally take the cleats off, I definitely see that in the future,” the veteran added.
