The Washington Wizards lost to the Los Angeles Lakers 134–131 on Thursday night in an entertaining overtime game. After 13 straight losses, the Wizards’ record stands at 9–50. It will be their goal to snap their current losing run when they take on the Los Angeles Clippers next.

The Lakers, with a 33-28 record as of right now, can still qualify for the playoffs. In the next game, they will play the Denver Nuggets at home to extend their winning run.

The paths that the two teams took were different, even though the Lakers celebrated their win and Russell’s historic achievement. With a two-game winning run under their belt, the Lakers were trying to secure a spot in the Western Conference playoffs. They are now the ninth seed in the playoff standings with a 33-28 record.

The Wizards, meanwhile, continue to sustain their back-to-back losing skids. They have now lost thirteen games and are currently at an abysmal 9–50 record this season.

Lakers coach Darvin Ham has been under heavy criticism from the Lakers fans for their below-average performance this season. Darvin Ham is just in his second year as a Lakers coach and the fans want him gone already.

Fans want big names to be traded in and want the Lakers to get pretty busy at the trade deadline. But it seems Darvin Ham is against this notion and he believes that the LA Lakers have no reason whatsoever to make any big trades.

“Again, everyone keeps talking about, it’s that time of the year, I guess, but with the trade talks, and again, everyone understands in this business that, if there’s opportunities to get better, you’re going to do that,” Ham said. “But the reality of it is, we have what we had down the stretch last year, as well as more firepower and guys who are a year closer and experienced in playing with one another. So, yeah, we can stop looking around and just look at ourselves, look within ourselves. These comments from Ham have received backlash from the LA Lakers fans as they want to make the Lakers great again and with no changes to this team that seems a bit impossible.
