Michael Chandler intends to spoil the “greatest comeback of all time”

He insists that Conor isn’t stronger than him and he would beat him, being lighter than him, as he believes he packs much more strength than Conor and his training camp is enough for the fight as he adds “He is not stronger than me. So, I don’t need to gain weight, I don’t need to gain any more strength, I don’t need to do any more than what I’m already doing. The dude is not stronger than me.”

Michael Chandler doubts Conor’s strength over a lack of availability of his weight training clips as Chandler himself has been putting in the work. He comments “Now, he’s a natural 155-pounder. I’m a 155-pounder. We would just be fighting at 185. He’s not stronger than me.”

Though Michael Chandler has his doubts over Conor’s strength, Conor McGregor has always boasted of knockout power with 8 of his 10 wins in the UFC coming via KO/TKO. He has knockout wins over MMA veterans Jose Aldo, Eddie Alvarez, and Dustin Poirier. Chandler, on the other hand, has 2 wins out of his 5 UFC fights, both via KO/TKO.

Conor has been inactive for over 2.5 years since his loss to Dustin Poirier over a devastating leg break in UFC 264. Chandler has been inactive for over a year too, since his loss to Dustin Poirier via submission in UFC 281. It will be an interesting bout given the build-up and fighting prowess of both the fighters.

Jackson certainly did a victory lap after his team’s dominant win over the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. On Twitter, Jackson noted the way his team highlighted a clip from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio where he said that San Francisco was going to “kick the s–t out of Baltimore” and decided to have some fun with it.

Baltimore dominated the game and won 33–19, with San Francisco’s final seven points coming in garbage time. Quarterback Brock Purdy, an MVP favorite, racked four interceptions but didn’t get to finish the game after suffering a hard hit.

The Ravens and 49ers are two of the biggest teams and the favorites in their respective conferences in the Super Bowl. Many fans believed that it was a preview of the big game. Florio also believed the same but the result was one-sided.

Conor McGregor and Canelo Alvarez drew attention this week due to a war of words between them on X, and speculations began about a possible future fight. It all started with McGregor reflecting on his 2017 boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. On X, he wrote that he had landed more shots on Floyd than Canelo had in his past encounter with “Money”.

“One of the greatest performances in Professional Boxing this was. I landed more shots on Floyd than Canelo. I’d love another go.” wrote McGregor.

Canelo was quick to respond to the post, and wrote, “I just need one hand with you and I don’t need to throw so many punches.”

McGregor followed up with, “Saul you uncooked chicken, I’ll stomp the ligaments out of your knee joint. I don’t even need hands to end you, I’ll kick you raw pink, leave you looking like you were left out in the sun too long haha freckle arse. I will see you and we will see. Conor McGregor knows how to box: Eddie Hearn

Eddie Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, considers that the fight between the undisputed super middleweight champion and the former UFC double champ is unequal, and such fights, while they generate massive hype, don’t return the same level of excitement as the fights end up mostly being one-sided, drawing similarity with the upcoming Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou fight next week.

“I think he could fight again and he would actually be in a decent boxing match, McGregor,” Hearn told iFL TV. “But it just goes back to the product. It’s like Fury vs Ngannou, it’s an amazing event, amazing hype, but you’ll see it’s a mismatch and we’ve got to move away from mismatches. Because what happens is, you build the hype and then they get in the ring and people go ‘what a load of rubbish’ and people are let down.”

Canelo told McGregor that he would beat him with just one punch and with fewer punches than he landed on Mayweather. But Hearn does not believe it will be that easy, because in his opinion the Irishman has knowledge of boxing and can offer a worthy fight.

“Look, Canelo obviously deals with all of those guys from very different worlds,” Hearn went on. “One thing I’ll say about Conor McGregor. He can box.”

Although he recalled that Mayweather even played with McGregor at times, Hearn also acknowledged that McGregor has a pedigree in boxing and offered a good fight, so Canelo would not have an easy time if a fight was to be finalized.

“Don’t forget, he [McGregor] was an amateur boxer, he’s got boxing pedigree and, let’s be honest, although Floyd Mayweather did with all due respect play with him at times, he still held his own in there. In clearing out the buzzwords, Bridges has clarified by stating that she only maintains a professional relationship with “The Notorious” and that people are jumping on the media bandwagon.

Returning to the topic of McGregor, Bridges stated that the UFC star has been a very supportive figure.

The event will kick off with KSI vs Swarmz on the undercard, and the Watford native will return once again in the main event against Pineda. His younger brother Deji Olatunji is also featured on the card, taking on Fousey.

While his next goal remains ‘The Problem Child’, the 29-year-old is looking beyond his American rival, and hopes for a mega encounter with none other than the former UFC double champ, ‘The Notorious’ himself.

“My main goal when it comes to boxing is Jake Paul, to finish Jake Paul,” said KSI, as per talkSPORT. “After I’ve finished Jake Paul, I think it’s just… I’ll decide what I want to do then. I might retire and hang up the gloves or I might decide that I want to do a super fight with someone like Conor McGregor.”

“It’s one of them things where it all depends on who else is there fighting, just whatever makes sense. Right now, my goal is Jake Paul and Jake Paul only,” he added.

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are reportedly in talks over the big-money fight

As per the reports of UK-based outlet, The Sun, the superstar duo is currently in talks over another money-drawing fight. A source claimed that personal terms have already been agreed between the two fighters but there is yet to be an agreement over the number of rounds, with the ‘Notorious’ wanting 10.

“The Notorious” has been out of action since losing the trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier back at UFC 264 in July 2021. It was not only his second defeat in a row, but also his second consecutive defeat at the hands of The Diamond, as well as his second loss of the year, and added with the back to back defeat was the leg fracture which put him out of action from any UFC fights in the coming months.

Now, The Irish superstar has been back to physical fitness and is in conversations about his comeback- something that MMA fans have been highly anticipating and hoping to witness it right in this year, and want to see his name on the headlines of the UFC events on the calendar. As exciting as UFC events already get for being the top dog in MMA, the enthusiasm gets amplified with the option to bet on UFC fights, and there are several new betting sites that betting aficionados can look into.

Recently, Masvidal issued another call out at Mcgregor. Speaking to The MMA Hour last month, Masvidal called McGregor a “f***ing p***s” and claimed that the 33-year-old has ducked him while stating that the fight has the potential to become the biggest UFC event in history. This latest grudge has once again put Masvidal into the conversations, in addition to McGregor tipped to return to 170 and Masvidal refusing to go down to 155.

Will Conor McGregor face Jorge Masvidal next? It is needless to say that its vital for both fighters to return to winning ways. While “the biggest UFC event in history” claim may be taken with a pinch of salt, any fight involving McGregor does become the biggest fight of the year and with the competition being from a fan favourite like Masvidal, the fight may be not that far from reality anymore.

One of the biggest questions that lurk amongst MMA fans is when they will see McGregor back in action, if not, who will be the fighter that marks as the Irishman’s comeback opponent. Since the two back to back losses against Dustin Poirier last year, McGregor has been away from the Octagon, including a lengthy recovery period following his leg fracture in the trilogy against Poirier at UFC 264 back in July last year. After addressing himself as the “most entertaining lightweight on the planet”, Chandler said that he was prepared to “up the stakes” and take on McGregor at 170 and he’s ready to have the fight anytime of the year- be it summer, fall or winter. McGregor, in turn, had a positive reception of the callout. Taking to Twitter, Mystic Mac revealed that he’s “definitely game” to take on Chandler at 170.

Seeing McGregor and Chandler up against one another will undoubtedly bring in massive PPV numbers, considering that Chandler has become the new fan favourite in the sport and McGregor will always be McGregor. Its also the fight fans would be far more eager to see over Conor taking on other fighters on his comeback.

Furthermore, McGregor has also talked about making a run for the title on his comeback and no matter if the fight takes place at 155 or 170, getting a win over Chandler, the current 5th ranked lightweight will boost McGregor’s chances of landing a title shot sooner or later.

From Dublin to Cage Warriors, Ian Garry has a similar foundation to that of Conor McGregor

Before making his UFC debut at UFC on Fuel TV 9 in April 2013, Conor McGregor rose to prominence in Cage Warriors, the famed Irish MMA promotion based in London and won both the CWFC Featherweight as well as Lightweight championships, becoming the first MMA fighter in Europe to win titles in two separate divisions. McGregor would go on to achieve the same honour in the UFC as well, winning both the UFC Featherweight and Lightweight championship and becoming the first double champion in the UFC.

Strikingly, the career of Ian Garry has been following a very similar path to that of McGregor’s. The Dublin-based fighter made his CWFC debut at Cage Warriors 99 in 2018 and went onto win all eight of his fights as well as the Welterweight championship in his native MMA promotion at Cage Warriors 125 in June last year. He would eventually vacate his title before moving to the MMA top drawer, the UFC.

 After vacating his CWFC Welterweight title, Ian Garry moved to the UFC and made his debut at UFC 268 in November last year at Madison Square Garden, the same venue where Conor McGregor became double champ. On his debut, Garry defeated Jordan Williams, knocking him out in the first round- a similar result that McGregor achieved on his UFC debut against Marcus Brimage.

It took McGregor five brilliant UFC performances before he earned a shot at the interim UFC Featherweight championship, followed a title unification against the then reigning UFC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo.

Garry, on the other hand, has earned applaud for his stunning Octagon debut and is set to take on Darian Weeks at UFC 273 in April. Expected to land another victory in his next fight, the undefeated Irish prospect is seen as a future top contender at 170.

With so many parallels between the two, it can be easily deduced as why Garry is seen as the successor to McGregor in the UFC. But the question is, will Ian Garry rise the ranks and eventually become the second Irish champion at the UFC after Conor McGregor? Only time will have the answer.
