Wrightsell’s journey to the Final Four epitomizes Alabama’s transformation from a football-centric institution to a dual-sport powerhouse. As he stepped onto the hardwood, he carried with him the weight of expectations—the same expectations that have fueled Alabama’s football dynasty. But Wrightsell, with his silky jump shot and unwavering determination, has shattered the mold.

In a recent tweet by:

Under the guidance of Coach Nate Oats, Alabama’s basketball program has undergone a renaissance. Oats, known for his up-tempo style and relentless work ethic, has instilled a new culture—one that values speed, precision, and fearlessness. Wrightsell embodies this ethos, his three-pointers lighting up scoreboards and igniting the crowd.

Wrightsell’s path to the Final Four was not without hurdles. A head injury during the Round of 32 threatened to derail his season. Yet, like a true warrior, he fought back. Coach Oats provided updates, and the Alabama faithful held their breath. Would Wrightsell be available for the biggest stage of his career?

On Tuesday, as the team prepared to face the UConn Huskies, Wrightsell returned to practice. Limited but determined, he took the court. “He’s got day-to-day evaluations,” Coach Oats revealed. “Our hope is that he’s gonna be able to play on Saturday.” The stakes were high—the first-ever Final Four appearance for Alabama men’s basketball.

Wrightsell’s availability against UConn was critical. His presence would stretch the defense, create spacing, and draw attention away from UConn’s shot-blocking center. The Crimson Tide needed every weapon in their arsenal to pull off the upset.

A tweet by The Next Round captures some key takeaways: “

Oats acknowledges the emotional toll of the loss with his statement, “It’s gonna take a couple months for me because there are teams still playing and we’re not one of them…” This highlights the disappointment associated with falling short of championship aspirations. A period of reflection and evaluation is crucial for both coaches and players as they move forward.

Despite the sting of defeat, Oats shows sportsmanship by acknowledging the victor. His statement, “We lost to a really, really good team,” underscores the talent and determination displayed by the University of Connecticut. Recognizing the opponent’s strength is a sign of respect and a valuable learning experience for the Alabama team.

A Unique Challenge: Alabama’s Achilles’ Heel?

Oats’ comment, “They were probably the only team in the tournament that could beat us, in my opinion…” suggests he may have identified a specific weakness that UConn exploited. Further analysis will be needed to pinpoint the areas where Alabama fell short. Identifying and addressing these shortcomings will be crucial for their future success.

While the ending wasn’t ideal, Alabama’s season was undoubtedly successful. The team displayed talent and resilience throughout the year. Oats’ focus on the future is evident in his approach. By learning from their mistakes and building on their accomplishments, Alabama can position itself for an even stronger run next season.

The coming months will be a time for self-evaluation for the Alabama coaching staff. They will analyze game film, player performance, and potential areas for improvement. Addressing these concerns through player development, recruiting, and potential adjustments to coaching strategies will be key.

Jimmy Sexton expected to bring in Nick Saban’s replacement

Known as the man who “runs college football”, addressing Jimmy Sexton as one of the most prominent figures in the NCAA FBS may be an understatement. The Co-Head of Football and Head of Coaching as a Sports Agent for Creative Artist Agency, Sexton is the representative of several college football coaching figures, including Lane Kiffin, Kalen DeBoer, Mike Norvell, Steve Sarkisian, and also Nick Saban, who is making all the headlines right now.

Regarded as one of the greatest football coaches of all time, Saban dropped a massive shocker on Wednesday, announcing his retirement after spending 17 seasons at the University of Alabama and taking the team to six national championships.

“The University of Alabama has been a very special place to Terry and me,” said Saban via an official statement. “We have enjoyed every minute of our 17 years being the head coach at Alabama as well as becoming a part of the Tuscaloosa community. It is not just about how many games we won and lost, but it’s about the legacy and how we went about it. We always tried to do it the right way. The goal was always to help players create more value for their future, be the best player they could be and be more successful in life because they were part of the program.”

However, what has poked the interest of the fans is the arrival of Jimmy Sexton to the Alabama facility, in the wake of Saban’s departure. On Thursday, the agent was seen on the University campus, with speculations arising whether Sexton is in the talks of getting Saban’s replacement for the vacant head coach spot.

Needless to say, it is expected that as Saban, one of Sexton’s many clients, has bid adieu to the team, Sexton will bring in one of his other clients to fill on the head coach position of the Crimson Tide. One of the most probable candidates for the vacated spot is Kiffin- head coach of Ole Miss.

Likewise every other sport in the world, the NCAA was also heavily impacted by the virus outbreak from the initiation. From cancellation and postponement of games to players and coaches contracting COVID, the season went through many hurdles to finally reach completion. However, the biggest example of a COVID protocol breach came from the supporters.

The Hard Rock Stadium, which hosted the championship clash in which Alabama thrashed Ohio State Buckeyes 52-24, only took in 15K fans, almost 40K less than its actual capacity to follow the protocols. But the real drama took place outside.

Alabama fans break all safety protocols during the championship game after-party

Despite both the university as well as the mayor asking the supporters to celebrate responsibly, soon after Saban and the squad lifted the trophy, thousands of Crimson fans swarmed the streets of Tuscaloosa outside the stadium, with majority seen in naked faces, a big no-no in current times. Several photos and clips also emerged online.

The act from Alabama fans is very similar to how the Los Angeles Lakers fans celebrated following the team’s championship triumph back in October last year.

“Particularly in our downtown Strip area, and other places of entertainment activity throughout our city is important to remember this, we can’t have block parties this year,” Walt Maddox, the mayor of Tuscaloosa had asked the fans prior to the game,

“There’ll be a time and place to celebrate, but this is not the time,” added the mayor, who even recommended against taking any strict action or curfew for crowd-control purposes.

Moreover, the university also urged the fans to follow proper protocols for celebrations, under the tagline of “Roll Tide Responsibly,” advising fans to wear masks at all times and to also maintain a distance of six feet from each other and avoid loud gatherings. As it turns out, none of those advises were followed.
